Industrial-Strength Fashion at Zenith
Limestone stilettos. Steel drum bodices. For the artists in "Ready to Wear?" fashion just feels that way sometimes. And they make art to prove it. This group show taking fashion as its muse includes several representatives from the grouchy-feminist camp. They're the ones who call their pieces "Fashion Sucks" and "Ouch" (for the stone stilettos). and don't come looking for the latest runway knokoffs - bloomers, girdles and classic little black dresses rule here. Local artist Donna McCullogh's A-line shift and apron, made from strips of coffee and cookie tins, would make a suitable uniform for a Stepford Wife.
"Ready to Wear?" at Zenith Gallery, 413 Seventh St. NW, Tuesday - Friday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., Saturday noon - 7 p.m., Sunday noon - 5 p.m., 202-783-2963, to July 18. |
