Exhibit features red-canvas oil landscapes

JASPER - Caroline Jasper, a nationally known painter from Bel Air, MD, will exhibit her unique red canvas oil landscape paintings at the Jasper Arts Center. The public is invited to meet the artist at the Krempp Gallery from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Jasper was featured in the November issue of the American Artist Magazine in an article titled, "I See Red."
Jasper explains, "My oil paintings record efforts at learning to see and better understand visual perception. The challenge is to represent on flat canvas how something three-dimensional looks from direct observation. I like to push contrast and dramatize color relationships exaggerating how I see it and emphasizing what I find most appealing in the subject." She continues, " Choosing what to paint is an emotional-level decision. Each of my painted scenes is an attempt to recapture the moment of light.
I wait for clear weather to search locations during early mornings or late afternoons when the sun is low."

Passage, an oil painting by Caroline Jasper, of Bel Air, MD, can be viewed at the Krempp Gallery during June.

Her exhibit will include a variety of land and seascapes and also city street scenes.
Jasper has appeared in numerous group and solo exhibits and travels the nation teaching her unique technique. Readers may get a preview of her work at www.carolinejasper.com.
The artist primes the entire canvas with red, then begins layering the lights and darks, allowing bits of red to shine through for added sparkle.
In conjunction with the opening of her exhibit, she will conduct an oil painting workshop demonstrating her technique of painting on a red canvas from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Kremmp Gallery is managed by the Jasper Community Arts Commission, a department of the city of Jasper. The JCAC is supported by the Friends of the Arts Inc., the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
