Because red evokes a wide range of strong feelings on many levels, it influences how the viewer sees and interprets an image. Workshop painters also will experience diverse approaches to oils emphasizing color usage. A variety of subjects will be addressed, from landscapes to still life and glassware.
In Jasper's own oil paintings, color theory enters into the portrayal of dramatic depth illusion. Her work embodies her beliefs about the use of red and how other colors interact with this dynamic hue. Tall, graceful trees come to life when basking in the warm glow of radiantly colored sunlight. Shimmering water is rich with a kaleidoscope of tints. Colors are added to shadows to give a more realistic representation of what is out there.

"I realized that shadows contain a lot of light," she reflects. "Shadows closer to their source are darker, while those farther away are lighter, have softer edges and contain more of the surface color upon which the shadow is cast."
Jasper's vast body of knowledge developed after graduating with a master's degree from Maryland Institute College of Art. Observation of luscious gallery and studio painting has inspired her work and helped her realize that school didn't teach her important information about how to paint. She also has been greatly influenced by a number of painters, including nationally known artist Chuck Close.
