Caroline Jasper shares her expertise through art workshops in Santa Fe and around the country
By Emily Van Cleve

In it she shares decades' worth of experience in the use of concepts applicable to any color medium. Another important way that Jasper shares her expertise is through art workshops offered around the country. At her week-long painting workshop at Artisans on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, which takes place from June 9 through 13 and costs $425, Jasper will begin with an in-depth study of color. "Many students are confused about color, have limited knowledge of it and are hesitant to experiment," she says.

During her workshop Jasper makes the art of oil painting accessible to both amateur and professional artists. "One myth about oil painting is that only the best or most advanced artists work with oils," she notes. "I want to show everyone that painting with oils is not so difficult."
Workshop participants will get a chance to experience Jasper's fascinating method of working, which involves using red as a ground. Her own paintings begin on a canvas coated with the hottest red she can find.

Caroline Jasper's career has been a delicate balance of teaching art and creating her own vibrant oil paintings infused with light. Jasper celebrates light and color through her vigorous landscapes. Her first book, Powercolor, will be published by Watson-Guptill Publications, New York, in 2005.
