POWERCOLOR - Master Color Concepts for All Media

Jasper's first book Powercolor-Master Color Concepts for All Media is now out of print. Good news: It is still available on this website (limited supply). Powercolor takes a comprehensive textbook approach to all that artists need to know about color from solving mixing dilemmas to color psychology, physics, optics, manufacturing, color theory evolution and use in art history, etc.. Ten artists contribute. Caroline: "Written as the one-stop learning tool I always hoped to find...what fascinates and frustrates artists about color, mindful of the importance of concept over technique... both for and against color theory, assembled not for the purpose of setting out rules, but for clarification toward greater understanding and ultimately improved use of color."

PAINTERS' GUIDE AND COLOR MANUAL -Strategies for All Media

|
Jasper's new book, released late 2009 in its second edition, is also available on this website. Unlike Powercolor's broad scope, which included color concepts interpreted through ten artists of diverse style and media, Jasper among them, the new book is all about her work. Instruction-oriented Painters' Guide and Color Manual goes into detail about color strategies and painting methods that typify Jasper's work - color and painting tips and exercises, articles she's written, glossary, etc. The artist's color thinking applies to all media. While the book emphasizes oils (Jasper's preference), her way of working translates easily to any opaque medium. This makes for a useful handbook for instructors and practicing artists. |

Bring drama to your work. Dare to try unfamiliar ways to think about and work with color, including Caroline Jasper's way of painting on red canvas. Create exciting light and shadow effects. Awaken the emotive power of color in your paintings. Manipulate color, lighting and perspective for dynamic depth. Following the first day’s concentration on color, each day brings another new focus and new painting(s). Improve visual perception skills. Apply proven dynamic compositional devices. Along with a head full of color theory master-concepts, take home valuable studies and inspired paintings of your own. |

| COLOR CORNER |
You can't trust the color name printed on a tube or the color printed on the outside of the tube to predict what's inside. Due to many discrepancies in pigment percentage and quality, milling processes, etc., the actual color of the paint color appearance (therefore its performance) may vary between brands. It's always best to check the manufacturer's paint chip chart in the store. |
