This book is an information-packed resource for any artist who paints in color. Its concepts apply to all media. Methods presented emphasize oils, the author's preferred medium, yet frequently apply to other painting media. Artists all deal with the same pigments.

RECOMMENDED READING
The Journey of the Highwaymen
by Catherine M. Enns
All suffer through palettes wrought with muddy color in struggling to bridge the gap between wheel and real color.Caroline Jasper spins off the color wheel offering insightful strategies for understanding diverse facets inherent in all colors, guiding readers to think about color logically in order to choose and use paints purposefully. An important feature is Jasper's concise course in painting on her trademark red ground. Materials suggestions and prep steps lead to painting demos. Her approaches to landscape and water apply to many subjects. Painters' tips, useful painting exercises, and a glossary enrich this resource while answering questions common to painters at any level.

COLOR CORNER

Gray is a neutral color, yet "perfectly" neutral in theory only. All mixed grays exhibit hints of their parent colors. Some are lovely; some look ugly. Near complements (best you can hope for in real paints) make exquisite grays. When too many colors mix in, the resulting gray goes dull and dirty due to hue bias conflicts.
